When we planned our winter weekend getaway to Stratton, Vermont, we had no idea how much it would capture our hearts. With its European-style pedestrian village and an array of activities both on and off the slopes, Stratton is a gem in the Eastern United States. While this trip was all about skiing, we’re already dreaming about returning in the summer or fall for hiking and leaf-peeping adventures!

The cobblestone streets, quaint shops, and vibrant restaurants feel like a slice of the Alps right in Vermont. It’s the closest experience you’ll find in the U.S. to Mont Tremblant in Canada, making it a top choice for anyone seeking a picturesque ski vacation without crossing the border.

Getting to Stratton
Stratton is easily accessible from major cities in the Northeast. The closest airports are Albany International Airport (NY) and Bradley International Airport (CT), both about two hours away by car. Renting a car is the most convenient way to reach the resort.
For us, living in Upstate NY meant an easy drive. We arrived early in the morning, aiming to catch the lifts as soon as they opened. By the time we got there, the main parking garage was already full, but we were directed to a free parking lot just down the road. The lot was walkable to the lodge, but there was also a shuttle available if needed.

Après-Ski Activities in Stratton’s European-Style Village
Stratton’s pedestrian village is truly picturesque and comes alive with après-ski activities. We noticed that restaurants and bars got busy starting around noon, but by 9 PM, the vibe was much quieter—perfect for those looking to relax after a day on the slopes. Here are some of our favorite spots:
- Bar 802: This is a must for après-ski drinks. Their nachos were absolutely incredible!
- The Fire Tower Restaurant & Tavern: A cozy spot with a unique ambiance, perfect for a nice dinner.
- Mulligan’s: Ideal for an after-dinner drink with a large bar area, plenty of seating, and a wide selection of beers on tap.
Family-Friendly Skiing in Stratton: Tips and Recommendations
Stratton offers something for everyone, from beginner skiers like me to experienced snowboarders like my husband. The variety of trails ensured we both had a fantastic time on the slopes.
Some of my favorite green-circle trails included Lower Wanderer and Easy Street. They were perfect for building confidence while enjoying beautiful views. For mid-slope breaks, we loved the mid-mountain lodge, where we grabbed drinks and snacks.
When I needed a break, I spent a few relaxing hours in the base mountain lodge. With plenty of seating and options for food and drinks, it was a cozy retreat. Stratton also has a Nordic Center offering cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snow tubing, Fat Biking, and even snowmobile tours. We’re already planning a return trip to explore these activities.
Luxury Accommodations in Stratton’s Pedestrian Village
We stayed at the Black Bear Lodge, one of the more budget-friendly options within walking distance of the village. The free breakfast was a great start to our days, and we loved relaxing in the huge hot tub and sauna after skiing.

Stratton isn’t just a winter destination. In the warmer months, you can ride the gondola to enjoy panoramic views, hike scenic trails, or explore the vibrant fall foliage during leaf-peeping season. Summer brings opportunities for mountain biking, golfing, and yoga classes at the summit. The village also hosts live music and festivals, making it a lively destination year-round.
